Chile's San Marcos Cathedral as it Survives its Past

San Marcos Cathedral in Plaza Colon, situated in Arica is one of the attractions in Chile. However, its current building that can be seen at this plaza is just a replication of the original building that have been damaged by an earthquake in 1888. However, the design of this cathedral was originally designed by Gustave Eiffel, who is also the designer of the Eiffel Tower in Paris ,France. Because in the 1870's Eiffel is highly an influential contributor of public works design all throughout the Latin America which Chile is included.

Gothic styles influence the interiors of this building and can be seen because of its tall bell tower with pointed ends. The cathedral's most prominent colors would be white and pink which is distinguishable upon its walls as well as in its interior. This awesome building is a magnificent manifestation of Arica's history. Moreover, it holds one of its precious religious item of the past, the image of Christ that was made in the 12^th century. This building was constructed after it was founded at the year 1541 for its patron Saint Mark the Evangelist. Yet in 1984 it was declared as a national monument of Chile. So, in visiting Chile, take a stop at San Marcos Cathedral.
