Mauritania's Structure: A Landmass Formation

Sahara desert covers a lot in the African continent. Many of the countries in this continent are covered by the sandy terrain of this desert. One of those covered by Sahara is Mauritania. This nation is just above Senegal and bordered by Mali in the east. Above Mauritania is the nation of Morocco, which also enjoys the shores of the Atlantic in their west.

Most of its people were Islam and use Arabic for communication. Their lands were almost sandy and with plateaus scattered in the region. People used to have herds in this region as a living. However, their coast was bountiful of fish.

What makes this African nation emerges just like the nations in its continents, is their exquisite land masses and vegetation. Take a look at the photo beside this, it's a painting made by a person in Mauritania -nope, it's not. It is a formation of land mass above sea level which gained its name as the “Eye of the Sahara” or the Richat Structure. The diameter of this structure is 50 kilometers near Ouadane, Mauritania. Initially, controversies perceived it as crater of a meteorite. However, it is claimed to be a product of erosion from an uprise dome structure brought by an uplift in the Earth's landmass.
